The Punjab Labour Welfare Fund Act, 1965 and the subsequent Punjab Labour Welfare Fund Rules, 1966 were enacted to provide social security and welfare benefits to the workers of Punjab. The fund is primarily financed by contributions from both employers and employees. The collected amount is then utilized for various welfare schemes and programs for the benefit of the labour class.

Applicability
  • The fund applies to establishments employing 20 or more individuals.
Contribution
  • Employee : Rs. 5 per employee per month.
  • Employer :  Rs. 20 per employee per month.
Frequency of Contribution
  • Both employers and employees contribute to the fund on a monthly basis.
Returns
  • Returns are filed half-yearly on 15th April and 15th October.
Utilization of Funds
  • Funds are utilized for various welfare activities like medical aid, scholarships, housing facilities, recreational facilities, funeral expenses, marriage assistance, vocational training, maternity benefits, and more.
