The West Bengal Labour Welfare Fund Act, 1974, was enacted with the primary objective of improving the socio-economic conditions of workers in the state. This legislation mandates contributions from both employers and employees to a fund that is utilized for various welfare schemes.

Applicability
  • Factories: Established under the Factories Act, 1948, employing one or more persons.
  • Establishments: Registered under the West Bengal Shops and Establishments Act, 1963, employing ten or more employees.
Contribution
  • Employee : A sum of Rs. 3.00 per employee every six months.
  • Employer : A sum of Rs. 15.00 per employee every six months.
Frequency of Contribution
  • 30th June and 31st December of each year.
Returns
  • Returns are filed half-yearly on 15th July and 15th January.
Utilization of Funds
  • Funds are utilized for various welfare activities like medical aid, scholarships, housing facilities, recreational facilities, computer training, vocational training, and more.
